The village war memorial is situated in the churchyard to the south of the church. The inscription reads as follows:

Bertram’s father, William, was Vicar of St. Peters, Tilton towards the end of the 19^th Century
Engaged in Tea and Rubber planting in Ceylon when he volunteered for active service. He returned to England in 1915. In 1901 Wm. Sidney Chippendall is living in Wansted, Essex and working as a Shipbrokers Clerk.

His wife, Harriet died 24^th May 1912 aged 49. Their gravestone lies to the North side of St. Peter’s Church and also commemorates their sons’ deaths. An image of the gravestone can be found here. Henry Liquorish, their grandfather on their mother’s side, died 17^th March 1916 in his 80^th year. His wife Mary, died 26^th May 1923 aged 85. An image of their gravestone can be found here.
